Starting Point

My body is hurting just thinking about getting up and going for a run. While I lay on the couch or lay in bed binge watching my favorite tv shows, I am constantly thinking about how it would feel so good to go for a run.

I live on the opposite side of town from Planet Fitness. I pay for a membership monthly and love going there. The gyms near me cost 6 or 7 times the amount. Why join a new gym when I can have catch up sessions with my friends at Planet Fitness? Currently it is negative zero degrees outside so I do not want to drive across town, let alone go outside for a run.

I NEVER used to run. I grew up dancing and it was counterproductive to run because it strengthened the opposite muscles I needed to strengthen for dancing. Last year I began teaching at a new school and was very eager to get involved as well as make new friends. I volunteered to coach an AMAZING program, Girls On The Run! I set the goal to complete the 5k at the end of the programs with the girls, even if it meant I walked the entire thing. I ran weekly, picked up running at the gym and outside. I felt so good! I ran maybe a mile out of the 5k and walked the rest BUT I finished, without an asthma attack!!

During the summer following I taught summer school which was incredibly stressful! I went to the gym almost everyday after school or ran outside. I got myself up to running 2.5 miles without stopping or without having an asthma attack. I took a vacation at the end of the summer and let the running go.

Well now it is February a year after I first started running and I am looking to start again! The hospital right down road offers a fantastic running program and I found out from seeing everyone run by my place every Saturday morning. It is too late to sign up. I will be signing up for a running camp in March.. which is still6 weeks away and seems forever!

In the mean time I will begin going to the gym weekly to build up my strength.

The goal is not to become the fastest runner and do marathons. The goal is to be able to run so I can keep with friends. :)
